What is a Home Network?
A home network is a group of computers, printers and other devices that are connected together, allowing
different users to exchange information and share hardware, software and Internet connections.
Why Would I Want One?

Hardwired Ethernet
Two computers with Ethernet Adapters, and a Router/Hub/Switch to share an internet connection.
Requirements
- Windows 98 (or newer)
- Category 5 (or higher) wiring between Router and each PC
Equipment
- Ethernet Network Adapter for each PC
- A single Router/Switch/Hub
Pros
- Most reliable
- Highest speed transmission (Fastest)
Cons
- May need Category 5 (or higher) wiring installed.

Wireless Ethernet
One computer with an Ethernet Adapter, one computer with a Wireless Adapter, and a Wireless
Router/Hub/Switch to share an internet connection.
Requirements

- Wireless Network Adapter for each PC
- A single Wireless Router/Switch/Hub
Pros
- Most convenient (no wires to run, quicker setup)
Cons
- Highest equipment cost
- Wireless is not completely reliable, subject to things like interference
- Not as fast as a hard wired network
